An Apartment of Wonder
For Christian Louboutin’s London boutique, we set out to imagine stepping into Christian’s own apartment – a space alive with his personality, passions, and playful sense of surrealism. Working closely with Christian, we were granted rare access to his private collections of art, furniture, and objects, which became the heartbeat of the design.
The boutique unfolds as a reimagined lounge, where nothing is quite as it seems. Oversized mirrored wardrobes, etched with bespoke artwork by Finnish artist Klaus Haapaniemi, reveal shoes as treasured objects. At the centre, a vintage Murano chandelier from Christian’s personal collection floats above an oversized ottoman, encircled by gleaming cocktail trolleys repurposed as displays.
A photograph of a historic building in Damascus inspired a dramatic room divider, while leaded windows echo the geometric rhythm of fishnet stockings, a nod to the Moulin Rouge and the city’s vibrant energy. Red carpets with colourful borders bring warmth and informality, inviting guests to explore. A whimsical trompe-l’œil staircase to nowhere hints that the apartment continues above – a joyful, intimate world reflecting Christian’s unique spirit.
